the new showroom uses locally-sourced reclaimed material to recreate the feel of a typical alleyway as a backdrop for the product display.

chinese practice neri & hu have recently unveiled the new camper showroom/ office in shanghai. taking after a typical alley called a ‘nong-tang’ the structure within a structure offers a dynamic display area for the camper shoe brand as well as conference/presentation areas and offices. reclaimed materials reflect the local colors and textures and are used to build a two-story house within a larger warehouse, creating a series of layers from within and between the spaces. the alleyway extends into the showroom from the exterior and literally splits the timber framed house in half leaving a bold red hatch at the cuts, opening several spaces that can be used for talks or smaller-scale events. grey brick infills the wooden frame structure acting as a backdrop to a unique hanging shoe display suspended under the sky-lit ‘alley’.
