the general contracting company transstroy has revealed new images for ‘zenit stadium’, on the western part of krestovsky island in st. petersburg, russia. originally designed by the japanese office kisho kurokawa architects & associates in 2005, the project has experienced a slow construction process, with work on the building’s exterior recently underway. with a capacity of 68,000 for football games, and 84,000 for cultural events, the arena will be home to FC zenit st petersburg, as well as a host for the 2018 world cup.

when realized, the stadium will feature a removable field as well as a retractable roof, which enhance the its functional flexibility. the structure is composed of eight large masts which suspend the giant roof.
