office of architecture in barcelona‘s ‘cocina hermanos torres’ is a project, born of a wish to generate a new experience for the world of cuisine and catering — a new space, one that is ideal for living a new culinary experience, where ‘container and content come together in the interests of a unique piece’. from the very beginning, the project has been aiming at — as the owners say — creating ‘a kitchen with a restaurant’, a space, where the cuisine is a highlight, while the surrounding sitting area is there for observing the sacred process of cooking.

by situating the kitchen in the center of the restaurant, OAB has resurrected the old concept of the cafe-theaters, places where people enjoy a show while dining. here, though, the show is the actual preparation of the dishes tasted. thanks to the structure of an old industrial shed as a huge container, the guests’ experience of living through the performance is emphasized. being in such a huge shed is like being present in a television studio or a modern theater.

the architects have made an effort to configure and enhance the properties of the original space in such a way that a further step can be taken in the haute cuisine experience — the visitors are involved in the happening, ending up being the main protagonists of the experience when the dish is placed in front of them on the table.
