odile decq organizes GL events headquarters around an internal atrium

between the river rhone and the river saône in lyon, studio odile decq has completed the french headquarters of events management company GL. the building, documented here in its final form by roland halbe, is suspended on huge double crossing beams on the fourth floor, the two primary volumes of the building are shifted at 86 degrees, with a large internal atrium serving as a stage that presents movement throughout the headquarters.

seen from the exterior, the building’s four façades are clad with black and white photographs taken by felice varini, intended to represent the structure’s surroundings with a play of opacity and transparency. responding to the client’s wish for transparent and open internal volumes, studio odile decq utilized glass walls to create enclosed subdivisions that puncture the open-plan office space. decq’s signature use of the color red, which corresponds with GL events’ company logo, permeates the design, contributing towards an energetic and dynamic workplace.
