off architecture + PR architects + samuel nageotte: solar park south

off architecture + PR architects + samuel nageotte have sent us images of their winning design for ‘solar park south‘, a competition that sought out ideas for the sustainable redevelopment of highway sections between scilla and bagnara in calabria, italy.

imagined as a vertically integrated community inclusive of residences, retail, leisure facilities and medical centers, the design looks to transform the architectural morphology and purpose of an existing viaduct into an atypical development. appearing as an archaeological contribution to the site, the project will restructure and consolidate the bridges’ original identity to breath new life into the area, while impacting the surround landscape as little as possible.

stacked and offset volumes extend along the pillars and roadway to create a harmonious combination of both the original and reincarnated typologies. accommodating both functions, the upper part of one of viaducts will house a pedestrian promenade, while the other lanes will remain dedicated to vehicular traffic. a series of public and private environments with trickle down and rotate around the structural form, that aim to integrate with the lush and natural surroundings.

  • There is no parthenogenesis, everything has been done before,so i guess comments like ‘this one did it,and that one did it before’ are a bit useless.
