olson kundig architects: 1111 E. pike in seattle
1111 E. pike is the address of a recently completed urban infill project in seattle by olson kundig architects. the project was led by architect tom kundig, who created a mixed use building combining main floor retail with residential space above. the building has two levels of underground parking and five stories of condominiums capped with a roof top garden. the apartments were designed to maximize daylight by using open plans with wide windows and high ceilings. vintage 1920s automobiles inspired the material choices, colors and design elements, a nod to the site’s history. each unit features a sliding ‘puzzle’ door which can change the layout of the space as needed.
