OMA-designed axel springer campus continues to take shape in berlin
the project has special significance to rem koolhaas, who was a journalist before beginning his architectural studies.
last year, nils koenning shared his images of axel springer’s new campus — currently under construction in central berlin. now the photographer has returned to the site to document the OMA-designed building’s progress. the german media company will celebrate its 50th anniversary with the opening of the new headquarters, which will be located opposite its existing HQ on the site of the former linden park.

the project — which signifies axel springer’s move from print to digital media — has special significance to OMA’s rem koolhaas, who was a journalist before beginning his architectural studies. once complete, the new structure will comprise a series of terraced floors that form a ‘valley’. this creates an informal stage at the center of the building, where ideas can be broadcast to other parts of the company. view nils koenning’s photography of the building below, and see designboom’s previous coverage of the project here.
