in nagano, japan, yokohama-based practice ON design has completed a weekend house constructed from locally sourced timber. entitled ‘rooms that follow the landscape’, the 1,000 square meter project is characterized by a series of angled windows that track the movement of the sun, with the floor level positioned to follow the site’s natural gradient.

this unconventional articulation of space lends the dwelling a fluid and connected quality, with individually crafted volumes immersed within the natural landscape. the organization of the property’s volumes responds organically to their particular function, with sunlight entering the bedroom early in the morning, before illuminating other areas of the home later in the day.
