portuguese practices OODA and guedes decampos have just shared with us their proposal for the new bavarian history museum located along the banksof the danube river in regensburg, germany. the concrete structure features a series of rectangular volumes placed parallel to the river’s edge whose facetedrooftops echo the jagged peaks of the german alps and act as light scoops indirectly illuminating the exhibition spaces from above. three floors above groundcontain the primary public areas: the ground level is reserved for a large foyer/event space, cafe, showroom, and entrance; the middle level contains thepermanent and temporary exhibitions in addition to the bavariathek and educational spaces, and the top floor with tall canopy sections houses a permanentexhibition divided by an orthogonally winding middle partition delineating smaller rooms. technical rooms and mechanical functions are allocated to the twofloors below ground, kept out of acoustic and visual detection from the rest of the museum.
