since the small italian town of quarto inferiore has no space for a park, paolo venturella and cosimo scotucci have planned the renovation of an abandoned concrete warehouse for their project ‘flip over factory’. the structure will host a green civic square up from the street, while the ground is occupied by an interwoven series of public and private programs.
plan 0
the building is preserved with a majority of the original construction components; all columns and beams are maintained and only the slabs are partially removed in a very conservative method to create new voids and a double heights, and creating interactions between various functions.
plan 1
the core of the complex is designed to provide a large covered hall for temporary activities. the perimeter is lined by residences, making it easy to participate in workshops of sculpture, music, craft, painting, and photography taking place in the center. afterwards, the organization encourages everyone to display their artworks from the comfort of their individual dwellings.
plan 2
on the upper level, the addition of small showrooms allows users and clients interact. entering into these shops, people are given an in-depth experience of craftsmanship. here, they can learn more about the products and observe the creators in their natural environment as they exhibit their skills. the top floor contains a library and a cultural center with voids cut through the floor plates to let light flow throughout the interior.
