located in the chilean town of maitencillo on the coast of the valparaiso region, ‘tacna house’ is a residence conceived with the surrounding vistas in mind. in order to grant the greatest possible unobstructed view, the home’s main programmatic enclosures have been built to their maximum permitted height according to regulations.

designed by local architects par arquitectos, the beach house comprises a large ‘suspended’ volume seemingly levitating above a smaller lower level which sinks into the ground. surrounding the main volume is a detached latticed structure that the architects refer to as a ‘scaffolding system’. defined in laminated wood, it is composed by the assembled crossing of four beams and four double pillars, placed punctually on a stone perimeter which protects and establishes the lower level of the house.

the wooden architecture grants spatiality to the programmatic resolution of the house, accessed via a ramped walkway that leads to the main volume. inside, a stairwell cuts through both volumes to connects all three levels. meanwhile, several other entrances, exits and gateways offer routes in and out of the property, making the most of a large balcony space, a rooftop terrace and patio access to the beach.
