tel aviv-based paritzki & liani architects have just completed ‘house R/D’, a single family residence on a seaside location in hofit, israel. gradually rising three meters along the home’s fragmented length, the elevations define a zigzagging footprint which follows the perimeter of the site. beginning with the garage as an incision in the earth, the interior leads into the ground floor living spaces and rises into a two-level section overlooking the water. the habitable volume is inserted into linearly connected oblique planes that follow the axis of the orientation of the topography’s curves.

from the ground plane, the terrain ranges from -0.30 to +3.15 meters, allowing views to the water at the highest point. these changes correspond to lower or higher roof and internal ceiling heights. free of internal partitions, wind blowing from the east to the west regulates temperature naturally. a long window connects the internal program to the bordering garden area. an upper level patio separates a studio from the bedrooms with open views to the sky.

  • overall, quite eloquent but I take issue with the odd angle in elevation on the back wall of cabinetry

the kitchen island is dynamite and the repetition of the flooring material in the niche formed by the cabinetry contributes a great sense of depth/poche\’

this is a project that would gain a great deal from the introduction of a little color or value gradation
