rotterdam based practice pasel.künzel architects has recently completed V12K0102, a single family residence located in leiden, netherlands. positioned on a triangular property in the heart of an emerging urban development, this elongated dwelling revitalizes this industrial remnant site. approximately 30 meters long, the form tapers along its length and is arranged around an enclosed open air courtyard. two raised volumes, for the parents and children, are physically separated and placed on either end of the home. connected with an outdoor elevated walkway, inhabitants are able to traverse between spaces and regularly experience fresh air.

the continuous living, dining and kitchen spaces are placed on the ground floor with immediate access to the adjacent intimate courtyards. natural light passes into the rooms through large glass windows on the inner facades. a pair of stairs flanking the collective space lead directly to the upper level bedroom wings. an uninterrupted bench runs along the living room wall overlooks the personal garden. wooden planks wrap the exterior produce narrow striations which form cantilevered canopies and screening partitions.
