drawing influence from a compartmentalized suitcase, architecture firm penda architecture and design have recently developed a condensed space designed to store and sell paintings. located in central hong kong, the box explores a program that is frequently left unused, and to save floor space, the option of folding and unfolding influenced its compact design. defined by its matte copper paneling, when in use the space systematically opens up to reveal sliding drawers for paintings, a comfortable seating and bar space, along with a study.

when unused, the space is folded away to leave a compact volume

the copper adds warmth to the otherwise cold and concrete space

the main use for the system is to present and store paintings

inside, a sliding drawer for artwork, a cozy couch, a bar, a beamer and a working desk has been integrated

the system has been clad completely in matte, copper panels
