bernardes arquitetura adorns office block in brazil with perforated façade

located in rio de janeiro, ‘anibal building’ by bernardes arquitetura is an office block clad in a multilayered façade. the outer layer consists of a perforated aluminum surface that covers the upper work floors, followed by landscaping and soundproof windows. this construction serves as a filter for light and sound, while during the night, when the interior is illuminated, it transforms into a translucent screen.

to ensure adequate lighting for the interior, bernardes arquitetura clad the library area in a series of glazed floors that function as a large-scale skylight. glass partitions and floors utilize this space as a lighting pit, which distributes daylight across all levels while filtering out unwanted radiation.

the four-story structure houses the headquarters of three companies, so each one occupies its own open-plan floor, while the ground floor and roof are spaces shared by all users. ‘open plans were made possible by the use of ribbed concrete slabs supported by peripheral columns. building installations and vertical circulation are located around the perimeter of the building,’ notes the team at bernardes arquitetura.image © leonardo finotti
