athens, greece is planning a new pier and athens-based point supreme architects has taken first place in a competition with their ‘faliro pier’. positioned in front of the stavros niarchos cultural park and national library and opera complex by renzo piano, the location will join urban life with sea activities. making use of the large coastline and warm climate, this venue will have a square platform which extends to the deck of ferry boats for seaside events and routes reaching as far as cape sounio. water taxis will stop on each side of the structure to shift the mass transportation network to include the water.

a lower platform is an open area for the public while an upper level has a cafe and restaurant. a south-facing tribune overlooks the sea and boat with a canopy overhead to provide shade. measuring 54 meters by 54 meters, the top surface is covered with solar panels.
