the polonsky academy of advanced studies for the humanities and social sciences is an unassuming building built by chyutin architects for the van leer institute in jerusalem. completed in 2015, the structure is situated on a small cliff that faces south towards the campus’s jerusalem theater. to the north, it features views of the central garden courtyard, which functions as the center of the grounds. aesthetically the edifice features opaque stone façades that integrate with pre-existing complexes on site. research labs, including offices, seminar rooms, and meeting spaces are located on the upper two levels. the main entrance, adjacent to the central zone, opens to a large exhibition gallery. below lies an additional conference area, lecture hall, cafeteria, and library.
