in contrast to the historic exterior of the baltic, german architecture, the renovations to ‘villa oppenheim’ by berlin-based firm pott architects, features a bespoke, modern interior. located in heringsdorf, on the island of usedom, the building was in dire need of repair due to many insensitive modifications over previous decades. the upgrade to the outside form was done according to local heritage requirements, while the inside contains a new function as a private holiday residence. the reconstruction of these internal spaces, included the reinstatement of the building’s original layout and visual axes. a character of tranquility pervades throughout the rooms, with the integration of custom-made furniture pieces in the kitchen, bathroom and wellness area. an array of details were considered from bespoke lighting, bath tubs and even door handles, helping to create a new identity for the historic villa.
