PPAA / pérez palacios arquitectos asociados‘ introduces its recently completed ‘las golondrinas’ to the state of méxico’s valle de bravo. the structure is situated along the upper boundaries of the plot, leaving the surrounding natural context intact and opening up to the views of the mountains. the house is designed to introduce a place of retreat for retirement, a place of disconnection and rest where at the same time its residents can spend long periods out of town.

with respect for the client comprising a large family and guests, the design team at PPAA / pérez palacios arquitectos asociados designs is ‘las golondrinas’ house with both privacy and views over the rolling terrain. the program is organized into three independent volumes housed beneath a large sloping roof. the space between these three volumes generates a covered terrace that becomes the social place during the day. each volume responds to a function and part of the program, as in one block are located the rooms, in another the gathering space, and in the third the kitchen and service spaces. the communication between these is achieved through covered and semi-open corridors.

PPAA / pérez palacios arquitectos asociados curates its ‘las golondrinas’ house as a collection of minimal geometries. the volumes of the house are clad in a matte black finish with clean edges and limited detailing. the black elements are interrupted with vibrant elements of rhythmic timber, introducing delicate moments of playful shadowing. the broad facades of the house are punctuated with bold punch windows that convey the depth of the exterior walls, exaggerating the heaviness of the volumes.
