australian firm PTW architects won a design competition for their architectural structure ‘luminous’, a small commercial block located in kodenma-cho, tokyo. this completed structure features a facade with deeply curved glass walls which maximizes the frontage for tenants and continually reflects the changes in the surrounding environment. a central glass lift helps to unify the curve of the penthouse with the lower levels.

unlike its neighboring buildings, ‘luminous’ is crowned with a penthouse rising above the 31m height limit, thus, opening up the view from the timber deck terrace to the tokyo station area and further along to the shinjuku district. the plan also features 95% efficiency on the net area of its typical levels, providing a more environmentally friendly design for its tenants.
