spanish architect ramón esteve has completed a mountainside property surrounded by pine trees and vegetation. located in alicante, a city on spain’s southeastern coast, the dwelling has been conceived as a concrete block that rests gently on the sloping terrain. named ‘oslo house’, the dwelling is composed of two overlapping volumes that are set back from one another in order to ensure daylight and ventilation.

ramón esteve’s design also results in a play of light and shadow, a gesture reinforced by a series of carefully positioned voids. openings in the floor slabs allow natural light to enter the residence, which helps establish a closer relationship between indoor and outdoor space. from the main living area, the house opens towards the landscape taking in sweeping sea views.

here, the ground floor has been extended with an infinity pool which blends into the horizon. in contrast, the rear of the home — where the entrance is housed — offers more privacy. another contrast is found in the choice of materials, where cool concrete walls juxtapose the warmer wooden textures used inside the home.
