seeking to activate small left over sites within the city, ‘ekoda food village’, by japanese firm re-write is located along a main shopping street close to central tokyo. collectively the village is a series of little restaurant stalls and the lightweight volumes nestle easily into their discarded surroundings. arrayed across the site into separate eateries, they create a variety of different experiences within the one space. the 1.5m x 3.0m boxes were prefabricated as much as possible, reducing the overall cost and schedule of their construction. stacked on top of one another or spread out across an entire city, the modular structures are easily adaptable. the transformation of this vacant, in-between lot into the ‘ekoda food village’ shows the potential of  temporary architecture to create a different atmosphere within the many ’empty’ and scattered urban environments.
