dutch architecture studio bloot has refurbished a townhouse in the hague featuring a sunken kitchen and an open-plan bathroom. using existing parts of the old kitchen, the new, custom-made counter stands as a large block in the middle of the space separating the dining from the cooking area.

the architects created a playful route around the sunken kitchen island using steps on either side and finished the custom-made counter with a stainless steel worktop. By removing the existing, lowered ceiling above the kitchen, the townhouse’s original beams have been exposed. also featuring exposed beams, the bathroom is designed as an open space between the children’s room and the stair corridor.
