the ile seguin island on the seine river was home to one of the first renault factories built in the 1920’s, and today hosts the welcoming pavilion designedby mahn architecture nancy to provide visitors with information about the automotive manufacturer’s long and rich history. the structure is made of 15 colorful shipping containers of two different measurements, 12-meter long and 6-meter long units both measuring 2.9 meters high. the 300 square-foot site is completely temporary with the possibility to be relocated or modified during future renovations of the island. a chronological illustration will display a timeline of the site starting at the middle ages, accompanied by videos, images, documents, testimonies, interviews, items, and models depicting the long process that resulted in the sustainable 21st century island it is today. the container structure is mostly lifted off the ground creating an open public courtyard that features a car in a glass display.
