the design team drew influence from the first islamic city, which was planned around a circular geometry. the arrangement thus centers around an enormous round form, with four smaller disc shapes on the site’s periphery. a rectilinear grid of trees and openings in the roof are organized atop the rounded geometries, and serve to break down spaces into different functions. various waterways and vegetation produce an oasis environment, in contrast to the harsh desert context.
