now complete, the ‘OCT shenzhen clubhouse’ marks new york-based practice richard meier architects first finished project in shenzhen, china. standing on an island in OCT harbor lake, the center’s two structures offer guests and members a restaurant, dining suites, multi-purpose areas, and an exhibition gallery amongst recreational facilities and a fitness center. layered spaces within the clubhouse radiate into the curved exterior wall, with continued views across the water. an open-air stroll through a garden links to the adjacent athletic building, balancing in scale and form despite the large programmatic spaces contained inside. metal panels unite the buildings on the site as well as an interior experience driven by natural daylight.

the illumination is directed to reflect across surfaces and its shifting angles reveal spaces during the passage of time. chinese landscape philosophy is integrated with moments of solitude to connect with the textures of the flowers and vegetation. platforms to overlook the scenery are scattered throughout the grounds.
