set along a ridgeline with significant mountain views, ridge house, designed by rowland + broughton is a thoughtful blending of old and new. located in aspen, colorado the house is built upon sets of staggered, remnant stone walls that run in a single direction, allowing light and landscape to slip past. oriented along a central defining spine, metal walls meet stone and evolve into glass as movement through the house progresses from public to private spaces. modern architecture mixed with curated details allows for a layering of history and a connection to the ranch-like character of the site.
the designers filled the interiors with a neutral color palette featuring light wood, black elements and white walls. the wood covers the ceiling, the exposed beams, the floor and some pieces of furniture, bringing warmth and uniformity to the interior areas. some chairs and lighting fixtures are covered in black, as well as the kitchen, to bring contrast to the spaces. while in other areas, white brings calmness and elegance, such as in the living room and entrance.
the residence’s high ceilings and wide windows connect the interiors to the stunning surrounding landscape. these openings bring in ample natural light, washing all the spaces with a sunny glow. the residence’s aesthetic matches aspen’s rustic atmosphere, yet brings it to a more contemporary and elegant level. true to its signature style, rowland + broughton adds yet another impressive residence to the colorado mountains.
