barcelona based RTA office has collaborated with turkish practice DOME partners to create the ‘municipality building, commercial centre and market place’ for manisa, turkey. a new focal point and destination, the continuous outward appearance will establish a strong presence within the urban core. the site includes two horizontal buildings and a tower unified with an expansive pergola. woven between the structures is an open air community market covered by a sprawling roof structure. it’s perforated canopy resembles an open netting which delicately hovers above patio spaces sheltering individuals from direct light and introducing gentle breezes.

the central tower’s facade is sheathed with a metallic mesh protecting large transparent windows from the sun’s harmful rays. the design proposal addresses the complex’s future effects on the environment and health of it’s regular and transient users by integrating garden zones and a reduced presence of CO2 and VOC within interior spaces.
