‘ruang tekuni’ by DDAP architect is a boutique apartment building in bali
the project seeks to introduce a tropical rainforest atmosphere to urban living.
named ‘ruang tekuni’, this boutique apartment complex was designed by DDAP architect to serve as an oasis retreat within an urban setting. located in seminyak, a beach resort area at the southern end of bali, indonesia, the building contains 12 studios between two levels, as well as a penthouse for the owner. in addition to maintenance and service areas, the ground floor has a lobby and an administration room. above, balconies are articulated around a central courtyard filled with brazilian fern trees and a pool with trickling water.

designed by local studio DDAP architect, the project seeks to bring a tropical rainforest atmosphere into the design of the building. ‘we proposed the idea of a tropical rainforest by placing green and zen elements in the center to create a sensory experience,’ explains dirgantara I ketut, principal of DDAP architect. this is manifested in the rustling of the leaves and the natural breezes that permeate the site.

the courtyard has been conceived as a contemplative space where occupants can hear the sound of flowing water and the wind moving through the trees. the windows and balconies of the different units face this courtyard, while a communal garden and swimming pool on the second floor lets residents take in the sunrise, watch the stars, or simply enjoy some fresh air.

this close connection with nature is further developed through the choice of materials, with reclaimed wood and timber used throughout. terracotta tiles have been used for the roofs, while the façade comprises terracotta blocks with small openings that filter natural light and ventilation. the building is crowned with the owner’s penthouse, which contains a private library and workspace.
