sanjay puri architects designs its ‘nirvana 63’ sports complex with a fluid sense of motion

sanjay puri architects organizes a cluster of curving volumes with its ‘nirvana 63’ sports complex. the design of the proposed project is informed by its sloping site which gradually descends toward the city of jabalpur, india. in response to this topographic condition, the team nestles the concrete volumes along the slope across three distinct levels at increments of ten vertical meters (thirty-three feet), avoiding the excavation of the land as much as possible.

the ‘nirvana 63’ complex by sanjay puri architects is designed with a fluidity that expresses a dynamic sense of motion. as the building descends the landscape, each of its three levels is set back with and opens onto landscaped terraces overlooking a valley beyond. based upon the extensive requirements of the program, the sports club is divided into zones with entertainment areas and indoor games each grouped together and outdoor games collected where the slope flattens out.

sanjay puri architects’ nirvana 63 sports complex is designed to include an olympic sized swimming pool, tennis courts, and basketball courts in the open area. meanwhile, squash courts, badminton, table tennis, and other indoor games are planned along with a large gymnasium and spa facility. restaurants, lounge areas, banqueting facilities, and a bar occupy the side with the best views. the entire building will be realized in concrete along with locally-sourced sandstone. minimal land cutting, the use of regional sandstone, water recycling, and rainwater harvesting, solar energy harnessing, and an orientation facing the north with screened volumes ensure an energy efficient building.
