barault architects introduce a fusion of scandinavian design, contemporary materiality, and a distinct texture palette in order to completely redefine a flat interior located in athens, greece. neutral colored surfaces, along with light oak flooring, create the ideal background for the breathtaking urban views and the carefully selected signature furniture pieces that become the protagonists of this residential scenery.

the intense focus on detailing and the bold materiality and texture choice become the cornerstone of barault architects‘ synthetic process. the timeless austere aesthetic of scandinavian design, along with mid-century modern items, are enriched through the use of several materials such as walnut veneers, a collection of greek marbles, and the selective use of colors in several elements, such as radiators, tiling, and woodwork finishes.

in the entrance hall, the sharp contrast of the tinos marble flooring, combined with the L-shaped walnut false ceiling and the dominant steel frame pivot window, create an interesting and welcoming ambience. in the open-plan living area, the walnut reading nest by the large opening, the mutto design sofa, as well as the two retro easy chairs, by grete jalk, integrate into a relaxing whole. the iconic tulip table and the wishbone chairs, lighted by the modo chandelier, define the dining zone. in the study, the two long plywood bookcases provide ample space for the occupants’ books.

in the meantime, in the main bedroom, neutral tones and the absence of sharp contrasts provide an atmosphere of serenity. in the bathroom and the WC, greek marble surfaces blend in with colorful wall tiling punctured by black fittings, while veneered elements provide a balancing warm tone. in the kitchen, skyros marble surfaces mix and match with custom made olive green cabinets, walnut veneered open shelves, and brass finishes.
