spanish architecture practice serrano + baquero were commissioned by a young couple to design their summer home in southern spain, requesting a generously proportioned pool to host summer activities with family and friends. one enters the proposed dwelling underneath the elevated swimming aera, before a journey of ascension through the interior begins.

each subsequent space has a different position in relation to the pool. windows overlooking a flooded courtyard appear, while underwater skylights illuminate adjacent bedrooms. water-level windows reflect rays of light, while a submerged living room allows the observation of the mirrored landscape. the tour ends at a rooftop terrace, named ‘the tower’, where guests are able to jump into the water below — completing the cycle.

the second journey involves a direct experience with the water, posing different approaches to the bathroom: a route that submerges only the feet, a 90 centimeter-deep pathway, or a seating area positioned 45 centimeters underwater. a two meter-deep pool makes it possible to swim around the perimeter of the plot, while a deeper 4.5 meter area allows both diving and snorkeling.
