designed as a terrazzo blast of fun, sibyl design studio has introduced ‘carmine café‘, situated within jeddah city in saudi arabia. the playful project showcases an innovative concept for the region, where diversity and culture have always been preliminary factors when designing cafés and commercial spaces.

sibyl design studio aimed to design an architectural experience emerging off the unfamiliarity, and being non-humble to its surroundings. the interior then responds to that idea of excitement and is formed to inspire a new design approach towards cafés, using red color tones in terrazzo tiles with its pattern repeated on walls, ceilings, and the fixed furniture.

the façade of the café is built as a plain wall, separating the outside distractions from the interior. yet, a slit designed as a singular glass panel inviteσ curious passers-by to take a peak. entering its doors, one will find a circular stairway on his/her right creating a dramatic feel.

the entire café layout is linear with the seats facing the bar, interacting with each other’s platforms and merging with one another within one space. ceiling lights are pushed downwards, towards the bar, creating a dim interior with only few LED lights embedded in the ceiling and around the corners to add to the whole experience of joyfulness and serenity.
