the shoji house project explores the potentiality of tiny urban voids in tokyo city. in order to achieve this aesthetic, the residence is built within a paradoxical envelope. this vertical house uses a translucent and moveable shoji, or paper screens, as a ways to either separate or assemble spaces in traditional japanese architecture.

additionally, the polycarbonate glass and meshing refine the residence in a contemporary manner. the qualities of shoji screen in terms of light and opacity. the permeability of the envelope evolves according to the activities taking place inside the house. the resilience of the light diffused by the shoji enables it adapt to the various uses.
