‘325 kent’, the first building to open at new york’s domino sugar site, has begun leasing to prospective tenants. designed by SHoP architects, the residential complex forms part of a major redevelopment of a landmarked sugar refinery site in williamsburg, brooklyn. as part of the masterplan, the site is being transformed into a 380,000 square foot office campus with a waterfront park. four residential buildings, containing 2,800 rental apartments, are also being built.

developed by two trees management, the 16-story structure by SHoP architects includes 522 apartments — 104 of which have been deemed ‘affordable’ to low-income residents. the rental units are arranged around a dramatic opening above an elevated courtyard. the aperture reveals views of the adjacent park, the east river, and the manhattan skyline. at the rear of the building, stepped units help mediate between the existing neighborhood and the taller waterfront buildings currently under construction.
