earlier this week plans were announced for the renovation and expansion of the smithsonian cooper hewitt
national design museum in new york. the project hopes to revitalise the museum by enchancing current
facilities and adding more exhibition space. designed by american architects gluckman mayer together
with beyer blinder belle architects the project will involve relocating the museum’s library to two adjacent
town houses, to make room for a new 7000 square foot gallery located on the third floor. the total exhibition
space will be increased by 17000 square feet. the project is expected to cost 64 million USD and will
commence in january 2009.
