rumors of a new apple location along chicago’s riverfront have recently been confirmed by an exclusive story published in the chicago tribune. the city has apparently approved plans for a foster + partners-designed store to be located on pioneer square at the north michigan avenue shopping district. the building will consist of a 2-story, 20,000 square-foot retail outlet complete with river views.

from street level, a slender roof 14′ high covers an area of 91′ x 71′ surrounded by glass walls — a subtle addition to the square, not quite replicating the iconic glass cube in manhattan, but still in line with the lack of visible advertisement. once inside, the store cascades down the square’s existing steps to the footpath, creating a transparent double-height space. the store is expected to begin construction next year, with more details to come upon the full release of images. foster and partners chicago
