from banknotes to beehives, snøhetta surveys a decade of design with new monograph

since its founding in 1989 by craig dykers and kjetil trædal thorsen, snøhetta has been an office that embraces design in the broadest sense of the word — creating everything from banknotes to beehives. over the past three decades, the studio has established offices across the globe as it continues to work on projects of varying scales. now, marking snøhetta’s 30th anniversary, a new book explores the studio’s most recent projects — from SFMOMA’s bold new expansion to the international centre for cave art.

published by phaidon, snøhetta’s first monograph in over a decade is written in the studio’s own words. paired with evocative photography and drawings, ‘snøhetta: collective intuition’ features 24 new essays on 24 projects from the last decade. examining the works not merely as they were built, but also as they are lived, the book offers the studio’s understanding of their own work and how it has taken on a life of its own.

designed by studio claus due, the publication investigates three core values in snøhetta’s practice, organized loosely into three corresponding chapters: projects that were driven by the firm’s integration of disciplines; projects that produce new ways of understanding political space; and projects that open up new models for generosity and collective ownership in the design of the built environment.
