soar design studio mimics a tree house for this residential house in taipei

located in taipei, life in tree house is a residential house by soar design studio that mimics — as its name implies — a treehouse. comprised of an ample living space and three individual rooms suspended by steel structures that are attached to the ceiling, the openness of the house invites for communal interactions. the multifunctional public space features overlapping flows for more spontaneity when it comes to sharing an organic lifestyle, independently or together.

the life in tree house project by soar design studio emphasises the virtual spaces while paying close attention to connecting the exterior with the interior. each room is seen as an individual structure within the house, with aisles, couches and green corners being inserted at different levels, connecting the spaces and delivering more comfort.

the hybrid-layered design carves out dimensions in one-level spaces, replacing the conventional vertical-split concrete walls with steel suspensions from the ceiling. gaps and closures within the dividing walls lead to an ambiguous reading of the space, mixing what’s private and public, as well as the different levels of the house. re-spacing is the key to the disruptive creation found on this project, dismantling everything in order to reorganise it. each spare space is positioned by itself, connected virtually without concrete walls, generating a comfortable micro-climate.

a multi-functional platform and open space result in usage ambiguity as well as an element that sets boundaries, exposing a different lifestyle for more exploration and experiences. to maximise the height within the multi-layered space, the ceiling and utilities were left uncovered. the floor-to-ceiling windows bring neat views from the outside, transferring the visual focus without compromising privacy.
