sou fujimoto is invited to be a speaker of the 2013 BODW forum in hong kong to share his points of view on the relationship between nature and the man-made environment–architecture. 2013 has marked a significant year for the japanese architect, who became the youngest participant to realize the serpentine gallery pavilion, situated in london’s kensington gardens. the fluid open installation was constructed to offer multi-functional purposes for people’s engagement, while standing as a piece of art with a revere and humble heart for its green urban environment. fujimoto wanted to create a place where people could relax and contemplate, and provide users with a variety of activities in which to spend their time–where people’s behavior would be just as diverse as the architecture in which they interacted. his other notable works include ‘house N’ (2008), the ‘musashino art university museum & library’, (2010) and ‘house NA’ (2011). in 2012, he was awarded the golden lion at the venice architecture biennale for his contribution to the japanese pavilion.
