‘becoming,’ the title of the exhibition inside the spanish pavilion at the 2018 venice biennale, presents the country’s architecture as seen from the perspective of different learning environments. the display showcases work by a group of emerging practices, who, over the last years have questioned the limits and conditions previously assumed by the field. imagen subliminal has documented the pavilion with new images and a 360 degree video, which can be viewed at the bottom of the page.

curated by atxu amann, ‘becoming’ transforms the pavilion into a freespace that can be read as a database or as an immersive landscape. each visitor chooses their speed and route through the exhibition, which remains in venice until november 2018, but is on view online indefinitely. conceived as a research project, ‘becoming’ is seen as an opportunity to confront established concepts and ideas.

with no hierarchical order or categorization, 435 selected contributions have been tattooed on the walls of the pavilion. however, the exhibition does not concern itself with the architecture of the future. instead, an alternative version of the present is displayed; one which explores new ways of carrying out the profession, with different formats, interests, and topics that require innovative tools and approaches.
