part of a mixed-use development currently under construction in the eastern chinese metropolis of nanjing, ‘vanke new city center sales gallery’ has opened its doors to the public. completed by international design studio SPARK architects, the 2-storey structure presents commercial and residential space available to lease and purchase from the large real estate company.

the design responds to its setting – adjacent to the city’s south train station – with dynamically tapered elevations and bold lines of light that mirror the continuous movement of the neighboring railway line. the building is further shaped by functional requirements and considerations that maximize the scheme’s prime location. the façade’s focal point is a large LED display oriented to face passing car and train traffic.

the building’s exterior is formed of two perforated aluminum skins that give the structure a manufactured finish, providing a visual contrast with the more natural furnishings inside the gallery.
