spc technocons’ ‘residence 54’ project in bangkok is a 30-year-old renovated townhouse. when the architects first started with the design, the building was in terrible conditions with 30 cm fractures from front to back. the 1st floor and 2nd floor beam structure was useless with crack mark all over it. the building’s foundation was also found in the same conditions. the project team decided to only  keep the structure and repair its imperfections to make sure that it will not have more problems in the future. also, spc technocons has designed a x-braced iron structure to support and rigidize the concrete structure.

thai based firm spc technocons‘ concept for ‘residence 54’ is to create a new look for the facade and floor space within. the architects have decided to take down the wall on the side of the house, connecting the interior space to the outside. consequently, re-doing an iron net-like boundary wall for vine to grow and cover the house in green. for the facade, the design team has  used glass to make the space look bigger and to allow natural light to filter inside.

for the main entrance, spc technocons has designed a corten steel folding door. meanwhile for the interior, the architects have created a flowing space from front to back. ‘residence 54’ has one dining room on the first floor and it can be opened to connect to the living and pantry areas. for the living room walls, the thai project team has decided to remove the plaster and reveal the existing brick material to maintain the building’s history. spc technocons has been planning a very thin stair case, therefore it has designed a corten steel folding stair that hangs from above to create a different feeling for other grey-colored steel structure.

for the 2nd floor, the project team redesigns the interior space by extending the room to the existing corridor and using the light weight material for the floor area. spc technocons’ ‘residence 54’ has two rooms — one is a bedroom and the other is a gathering space. in the gathering space, the architects design a four-meter window that can rotate near 90 degrees, manually operated. for the bedroom, the architects have designed a 45 sqm space, including a bathroom and walk-in closet space together to make the room space more comfortable.
