‘house at the park’ by german practice splendid architecture is a residential house for a family of six in hamburg, germany. true to its name, the site of the project is an old tree population with a large number of trees in and around the grounds. the design aims to integrate this precondition into the architectural concept rather than oppose it.

built on piles, the house features a large inner courtyard that pivots around an established tree. largely open in terms of both air and glazing on the south side, the dwelling opens up to the park with overlapping indoor-outdoor spaces. the covered patio space is built around a tree trunk which offers a dynamic and organic architectural element to the outdoor space. using a fluid and continuous structural form, the design aims to effortlessly exist with the environment.

the dwelling has been awarded ‘the most beautiful new built house’ by the alliance of german architects.
