dutch firm STAR strategies + architecture were commissioned to develop a panorama about the history of architecture typology in sun and beach tourism. for the exhibition ‘tourism: spaces of fiction’, which sets out to analyse the relationship between design and desire, industry and consumption – a complex relationship, thronging with contradiction and tender moments. like the society we live in.

the study starts of in: 1626 scarborough, england: the first resort mrs elizabeth farrow’s discovery of a thermal spring in the cliffs south of the town leads to scarborough becoming the first sea-bathing spa in the united kingdom.

and

finishes at: 2015 palm deira, dubai construction of palm deira the largest of the palm’s artificial islands, at 14 kilometres long and 5.5 kilometres wide is scheduled for completion in 2015.

the panorama of 7 x 3 metres is currently on display at the disseny hub barcelona (DHUB) in the palau de llió in the centre of barcelona until may 24, 2009.
