studio edwards puts a sleek, black A-frame cabin on wheels

melbourne-based studio edwards presents base cabin, a mobile retreat that provides a fresh design approach to the ‘tiny house’ typology. featuring an A-frame structure and inspired by the iconic airstream trailer, the design is structurally efficient and uses less material than conventional portal framed buildings. the mobile home was designed to be transported on a trailer and whelped into its desired location, providing an intimate connection to nature and the great outdoors.

the base cabin by studio edwards features a low-profile appearance clad in black rubber that allows it to easily blend into its surroundings. with two levels, the space has been optimized, arranging the sleeping area below the A-frame too with a triangular window framing views outwards. complete with a central bathroom shower bathed in light from the roof-light above, the cabin is naturally lit all day long. a kitchenette to the rear of the cabin provides kitchen functionality with a window seat and fold-out table adjacent to a large operable glazed façade.

the interiors are built using natural materials, creating a warm environment that is both inviting a tactile, providing a cost-efficient alternative to building a dwelling. ‘base cabin is a custom builder of high-quality, architecturally designed tiny homes,’ comments base cabin. ‘collaboration with designers is at the core or what we do. whilst the cabins we build are small in size, we seek out the best finishes to incorporate them into our spaces. we believe in quality over quantity. because our build process is highly collaborative and flexible, we have the ability to incorporate great ideas as we build. we intentionally keep an open mind as we understand every client has different needs and drivers for what they want to achieve with their cabin. we think that you don’t need excessive space to enjoy the pleasures of escaping and enjoying the natural environment. our cabins are designed to not only deliver an exceptional experience, but to also connect within the landscape.’
