between the 1960s and 70s, bar riviera was a frequent haunt to the intellects, artists and film crowds of são paulo, unfortunately the institution had to close its doors but this has led to its revival by brazilian practice, studio MK27. the design of the contemporary bar has resulted in a subtle homage to its interesting past, the sinuous counter surrounded with bertoia bar stools, curves around the center space and is a reference to the preexisting bar- also red. the organic nature of the interiors is highlighted by the sculptural staircase, taking visitors up to the restaurant and kitchen where in the evenings, turns into a stage for live music. to soften and encourage an intimate atmosphere, a dark wood has been used to line the walls and like an outer shell, it offers acoustic properties whilst complementing the granilite flooring. the rejuvenation of the cult establishment has brought an up-to-date vision and at the same time, channels the same, eclectic atmosphere to the present-day brazilian crowd.
