studio raanan stern designs family apartment in tel-aviv

studio raanan stern has completed interior design for a 165 sqm apartment centrally located in tel-aviv, israel. planned for a single family, the client requested the creation of two divided areas where adults and kids could simultaneously entertain without bothering one other. the flat was extended, forming a narrow but long area optimal for meeting these needs.

spatial organization by stern corresponds to the goal of creating two distinct lounge areas. on the street side, to the right upon entrance, is a large lounge that includes: kitchen, dining and living room, as well as terrace access. opposite, at the end of the home’s long hallway, is a wooden door that serves as sound-block and transition to the children’s domain. beyond the threshold, is located another living space, with connections to three bedrooms. multiple bathrooms and additional storage are placed in the corridor between either section.

inner walls and partitions are avoided wherever possible, allowing free movement of people and light through the home. instead, various flooring types, shelves, painted sections of wall, and materials distinguish the limits of each zone. light fixtures run the length of the corridor, and are mimicked with high horizontal windows when appropriate. circulation through the home is relaxed and varied, resulting in a diverse atmosphere that meets all requirements.
