studio wet constructs family house with 40-meter-long brick façade in alosno, spain
an opening on its pitched roof serves as an outdoor courtyard.
studio wet has built casa borrero, a single family house in alosno, a small village known for its fandangos, a special type of flamenco music, and iberian pork sausages in the province of huelva, southwest spain. the seville-based architecture firm has drawn from vernacular architecture as it was commissioned to design a traditional, single story dwelling on a 7 x 40 meter plot, applying its principles to the construction of the building through a system of load-bearing brick walls parallel to the façade, achieving a 40 meter long front elevation.

located in close proximity to the mines of tharsis, and thus to its english colonial architecture, alosno and its buildings offered the basis for studio wet to develop a traditional residence, but with a twist. the project comprises a one-story, compartmentalized plan with a free standing garage at one end, covered by a single pitch roof spanning from 6,5 to 7,5 meter along the 40 meters length. an opening on the roof serves as an outdoor courtyard, where the main entrance of the house is also located. in order to transform the monotony of a 40 meter long wall, but also to better support the large, pitched roof, studio wet has rhythmically shaped the front façade of the house with a series of recurring curves, made out of two different shapes of brick.
