standing at four-storeys with rectangular masses and openings carved out from the vertical volume is the ‘aperture house’ in bangkok, thailand. residing the dwelling is a photographer and a landscape designer and taking cues from their occupations, Stu/D/O responded with a design that merges greenery and carefully arranged openings that display full-framed views of the surrounding vistas.

aperture house captures the turnings of time through the interplay of lights  and shadows, as daylight cascade through the architectural facade and openings.

a continuous inside and outside aesthetic is achieved through the integration of planted trees in which the spaces correspond and articulate around. additionally, Stu/D/O carefully arranged the openings to allow the natural landscape to seep into the living areas. from the exterior, the 0.60 x 0.60m square openings are uniformly equal and dispersed. they capture the changing daylight which is most evident through the tapered voids into the interior.

all the programs are organized and are hidden from view from the outside within the rectangular outer envelope. the continuity of the external envelope shapes and completes the regular geometric architectural form with the largest void revealing the expansive vertical space- becoming the main focus of the house. bedrooms and living spaces are spread across the first three levels and is finished with a rooftop terrace that is connected to the photographer’s darkroom.
